McCallum Takes First Step Toward Joining Chargers

Share

The Navy helped the Chargers get closer to landing the services of running back Napoleon McCallum Thursday when they detached the lieutenant from his duties on board the guided missile cruiser California and ordered him to report to recruitment officers training school in Orlando, Fla.

If McCallum graduates from the school, he will be eligible for transfer to San Diego as early as May. Once in San Diego, McCallum hopes to moonlight as a running back for the Chargers. Whether that will happen depends on how McCallum’s superiors decide to utilize him as a recruiter.

Chief Petty Officer Craig Huebler said Thursday the Navy is still formulating plans on exactly how they will utilize McCallum if they assign him to San Diego.
