W. Berlin Mayor Urged to Ease Travel Limits
From Reuters
EAST BERLIN —
East German dissidents want West Berlin’s new mayor to urge East Germany to ease travel restrictions.
“No progressive politician in the world should tolerate that in the middle of the safest zone of peace in the world, in Europe, people have to live walled in,” they said in a letter to the Social Democrat mayor, Walter Momper.
The letter, which asks Momper to raise the subject of travel in planned talks with East German leader Erich Honecker, was made available to reporters last week.
