IN BRIEF : Six Cities File for 1996 Olympics

Six cities have met the deadline for submitting official candidacies to host the 1996 Summer Olympics, the International Olympic Committee said today.

The list includes Athens, seeking to get the Games back to the Greek capital 100 years after the first modern Olympics were held there. Other bidders are Atlanta; Belgrade, Yugoslavia; Manchester, England; Melbourne, Australia and Toronto. The IOC said it will choose the host of the 26th Olympiad at a September, 1990, session in Tokyo. Deadline for candidacies was Saturday.
