VW Settles Discrimination Case: Volkswagen of America Inc. has agreed to pay $670,000 and the United Auto Workers $48,000 to settle claims that they discriminated against black employees, a spokesman for the auto maker said. About 800 black workers could share the money under the settlement, which is subject to approval by U.S. District Judge Gustave Diamond, who is presiding over the 6-year-old case. He scheduled a June 13 hearing on the settlement. Individual payments would range from $70,000 to a supervisor who said he was harassed on the job to $200 for hourly workers who were fired before their 90-day probations expired.
