MCA Makes Vow to Cineplex: MCA vowed that it has “no intention of seeking to acquire control” of Cineplex Odeon, the Canadian movie theater concern in which it holds a 33% voting stake. The declaration was made in a letter to the Cineplex board of directors and filed at the Securities and Exchange Commission. The letter, signed by MCA Vice President Charles S. Paul, urged independent directors to scrutinize Cineplex Chairman Garth H. Drabinsky’s effort to amass a controlling amount of stock without making a tender offer to all shareholders.
