Norwalk : Agency Votes Funds to Help Remodel Shopping Center

Share

The Norwalk Redevelopment Agency on Tuesday voted to spend up to $550,000 to assist in the remodeling of the Norwalk Square shopping center.

West Venture Development Co., which owns the shopping center, plans to remodel all buildings facing Pioneer Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue using a Spanish architectural theme. West Venture also plans to build a multiscreen theater and an 8,140-square-foot commercial building on the site.

The retail shopping center is one of the key projects in the city’s plans to develop a Spanish-style village, of sorts, along San Antonio Drive from the Santa Ana Freeway to Rosecrans. The city plans to use redevelopment and federal grant money.

A report by Donald J. Rouly, Norwalk director of economic development, said some details of the project still have to be worked out, but that the agency would contribute up to $550,000.
