The South Tahoe Public Utility District has proposed five waste pumping facilities at local marinas in lieu of a proposed fine for two spills of waste water earlier this year. District directors also said they still are fighting the proposed $71,600 fine that the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board will consider at a meeting in Victorville. The pumping facilities for boats would be “an excellent approach,” director Nat Sinclair said. But he added, “We’re all getting tired of getting blamed for everything. We’re doing the best possible job. We can’t be continually blamed for actions we’ve no control over.” Regional water quality officials proposed the fine after rocks jammed open a pipe valve and about 71,000 gallons of treated waste water spilled at the district’s Luther Pass pump station in January and February.
