TV Sleuth Tracks Down New House
PIERCE BROSNAN and his wife, CASSANDRA (CASSIE) HARRIS, have purchased a 6-acre Malibu estate.
Their new ocean-view home is in the Paradise Cove area, near Barbra Streisand’s beach compound.
The seller, described as “an in-law to the Getty family,” got nearly $3 million for the property, which has lush tropical grounds, a pool with a waterfall and is what Robert Rubenstein of Malibu Realty calls “a Mediterranean masterpiece.”
Rubenstein represented the Irish actor--probably most familiar as the TV detective Remington Steele, though he also starred in the NBC miniseries “Around the World in 80 Days,” which aired in April--and his Australian actress wife, who co-starred in the ’81 James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only.”
The couple and their three children were formerly living in leased quarters in Malibu Colony. They recently sold a house in Hollywood’s Outpost Estates.
“The deal was quick and clean,” Rubenstein said of the Malibu purchase. “Pierce was in Rancho Santa Fe working on the (TV) film (for HBO), ‘The Heist,’ with Tom Skerritt, and I was in Malibu, working on the sale.”
LYNDA CARTER, star of the former TV series “Wonder Woman,” has been enjoying her real-life roles as wife and mother in Washington, D.C., so much, she just sold her 18-acre ranch in Malibu.
That doesn’t mean she’s given up show biz: She will appear May 21 with Stacy Keach in “Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer: Murder Takes All” on CBS-TV.
“But about two years ago, she left her girlfriends, including (Malibu neighbor, actress) Ali MacGraw, and went off with her Prince Charming (attorney Robert Altman) to Washington, where they bought a house,” said Carol Rapf, who represented Carter along with Chris Frost, both of Jim Rapf & Associates in Malibu.
“They live there with their baby, her first child.”
The ranch sold for close to its $2-million asking price to Marshall Ezralow, a partner of Adler Development, developer of that posh new community overlooking Beverly Hills known as Beverly Park. The ranch, in a canyon area known as Saddlepeak, has stables, ponds, a riding ring and a rambling ranch house built around a pool.
Speaking of Beverly Park . . . JON PETERS, co-executive producer of “Rain Man,” didn’t have enough trees around his new, $6-million-plus home there, so he trucked in a forest, sources say. At quick count, there were about 150 trees of several varieties. In the meantime, neighbors have seen Peters and Sylvester Stallone riding side by side around the area on their motorcycles.
DAVID GEFFEN--the 46-year-old entrepreneur who went from the mail room of a talent agency to managing his own clients to funding a record company to producing “Dreamgirls” and “Cats” to making such movies as “Risky Business” and “Beetlejuice”--is wheeling and dealing in real estate . . . again.
His David Geffen Entertainment has acquired a Beverly Hills parcel with several industrial buildings on it for $10.75 million.
Geffen made news in January with the $7.45-million sale of a residential site he owned on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. It is believed to be the highest price yet paid in the area for a vacant lot.
He is planning to raze the industrial buildings, at Maple Drive and West 3rd Street, and build an office complex for his corporate headquarters. Don Ferris of L. J. Hooker International represented the seller, and Jack Shanfield Ltd. represented Geffen.
PEDRO GUERRERO and his wife, Denise, have put their Windsor Square/Hancock Park house on the market for $2.6 million.
The Dodgers traded the ace hitter last August to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Guerreros had lived in the Tudor-style home, built in 1918, for about five years. “It’s one of the few tennis-court properties in the area,” said Alice Buckley, who has the listing with Coldwell Banker. “And he built a wonderful trophy room.” The house also has a wine cellar and a pool.
BURGESS MEREDITH heads a group of Malibu-resident stars who are planning a benefit banquet June 2 to launch the new Malibu quarters of La Scala, expected to open to the public this weekend.
The restaurant was located, since 1979, nearby, but is moving to Malibu Creek Plaza, originally owned by actors Harrison Ford and Tom Selleck.
The center, on the southeast corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Cross Creek Road, was purchased for about $6 million a year ago June 1 by a group headed by Steven Soboroff and Richard Green, and they are just completing a $3-million-plus renovation, not including La Scala.
Restaurateur Jean Leon invested more than $500,000 in the interiors, which he also designed. Leon is also underwriting the June banquet, anticipated to generate $100,000 for the Motion Picture-Television Fund.
