A 40-year-old Renton man died after the limited-class hydroplane he was driving in the Apple Blossom Festival race flipped and tossed him into the Columbia River. He was run over by another boat.

Vernon Haworth was pronounced dead on arrival at Central Washington Hospital Sunday afternoon, said Alma Holcomb, nursing supervisor. The accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m., during the next to the last race in the regatta.

The driver of the other boat, Brad Mosier, was not injured.
