In Brief : Soviet Coach to Aid Seoul Wrestlers
South Korea has invited a top Soviet coach to train its coaches and wrestlers as part of plans to step up cultural exchanges between the two nations, sports officials said today.
The Korea Amateur Wrestling Federation said Ivan Yarygin, 41, head coach of the Soviet national wrestling team, will visit Seoul from May 20 through June 4 under the federation’s training program.
Yarygin won the Tehran World Wrestling Championship in 1973 and a gold medal in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, federation officials said.
South Korea has been seeking nonpolitical exchanges with the Soviet Union since the successful staging of the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, which the communist country attended. South Korea has no diplomatic relations with most communist countries.
