A celebrity tennis tournament to raise funds for the San Gabriel Valley YWCA’s WINGS shelter for battered women will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Claremont Club, 1777 Padua St., Claremont. Celebrities expected to attend or participate include actor Robert Wagner, tennis champion Evonne Goolagong, comedian Rich Little and former Dodger catcher Steve Yeager. General admission tickets are $8.

The YWCA, based in West Covina, will move the shelter Sept. 4 to a new $700,000 facility, doubling its capacity to 32 women. So far the YWCA has raised $550,000 from federal and state grants and private donations.

Proceeds from the tennis tournament will help operate such WINGS programs as support groups for battered women who have not left home and counseling for those living temporarily in the shelter.
