Sympathetic to Sanctuaries

Share

Few articles are as moving as the first-person piece “Even Within a Sanctuary, a Minister Learns to Fear” (by Donna Schaper, May 3). Donna Schaper must be a saint. I do agree with what she says. Our society needs to have places where a person can go to find a sympathetic listener.

Loneliness is probably one of the reasons our society seems too cruel and inhumane. We each sit in our isolated rooms watching TV. We don’t talk even when we are in public places. A person who is without a good job or a good family is truly alone. There is a real need for more people like Donna Schaper, but most of us are afraid to take the chances she takes. I congratulate her for her courage and dedication.
