Academy Award-winning actress Greer Garson has donated $3 million to the College of Santa Fe to develop a motion picture studio for academic and commercial use.

Garson, who lives in Dallas, did not attend Thursday’s announcement of the gift but said in a tape-recorded message that it represented an interest in education and the arts shared by herself and her late husband, Dallas oilman E. E. (Buddy) Fogelson.

Miss Garson is expected to attend the Aug. 12 ground-breaking for the Garson Communication Center. A gymnasium will be converted into a sound stage and production facility that university President James Fries said could be the cornerstone of a developing film industry in New Mexico.
