Driving Miss Daisy (The Zanuck Co.). Shooting in Georgia. Jessica Tandy, Morgan Freeman, Dan Aykroyd, Patty Lupone and Esther Rolle are all taking cuts in pay to bring this Pulitzer-prize winning play by Alfred Uhry to the big screen. Tandy’s an elderly Southern Jewish woman who must contend with the black man her son hires (against her will) to drive her about. Producers Richard and Lili Zanuck. Director Bruce Beresford. Final Notice (Wilshire Court). Shooting in Toronto. Gil Gerard, Melody Anderson, Steve Landesberg and Louise Fletcher star in this murder mystery thriller. Gerard is a private eye whose task is to locate a fiend who is slicing up library books--which parallels actual grisly homicides taking place on the street. Producer Paul Freeman. Into Thin Air (Esparaza/Katz). Shooting in New York. Larry Cohen, who spurred controversy with the troubled Bette Davis vehicle “The Wicked Stepmother,” writes and directs this thriller. Eric Roberts is a cartoonist who stumbles onto sham whereby an “ambulance” wisks away people who are never seen again. Producers Moctesuma Esparza and Robert Katz. Also stars Red Buttons and James Earl Jones. Distributor Epic.

Last Stand at Lang Mei (New Horizons). Shooting in the Philippines. Based on a true story, it’s a 1970 Vietnam tale of a U.S. platoon surrounded in enemy territory and their emotional and physical struggle for freedom. Producer/director Cirio H. Santiago. Tim Robbins/Robin Williams Project (Orion). Shooting in New York. “No Way Out’s” Roger Donaldson directs this comedy that pits Williams, a smooth-talking auto salesman, against a berserk and jealous Robbins ‘cause it seems that Williams has been trying to wheel and deal with his woman. Waiting for the Light (Edward R. Pressman/Epic). Shooting in Tacoma. Shirley MacLaine and Teri Garr star in a drama set against the tension of the Cuban Missile Crisis. MacLaine is an en-vaudevillian and Garr her niece as they (with Garr’s two kiddies) relocate to a small town for a new start. Executive producer Edward R. Pressman.
