Cold, wet and even violent weather struck much of the nation, with the worst in Killeen, Tex., where a storm packing hurricane-force winds plowed through the town and Bell County. At least three apartment complexes were demolished, dozens of other buildings and trees were damaged and about 50% of the city was without electrical power. At least three people were injured. Elsewhere, rain pelted already flooded parts of Maine, and snow fell on Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Yosemite National Park in California, and more snow was predicted for the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Damage from the 87-m.p.h. Texas winds was estimated in the millions of dollars.
