Questions to Consider About Dividing Up Space in Yard

Share

Individual life styles are the key to determining the way a yard will be landscaped. Here are some questions to get you thinking about how the available space should be divided:

Will there be a pool or spa?

Are there children or pets that require special space--an area for playground equipment or an enclosed run?

What other forms of recreation need to be considered? Badminton court, tennis court, horseshoe pit, lawn area?

Should there be an area for outdoor cooking and dining? How frequently will it be used? Will it be just for family or used for entertaining? How large a group must the area accommodate? Does it need to be sheltered?

Does there need to be a space for growing vegetables or herbs? Should there be a growing area for cut flowers? Will there be a greenhouse?

Where will gardening equipment and supplies be stored? What provisions need to be made to handle garbage receptacles? What other storage areas are needed?

How should pathways be designed to connect the different areas for ease of traffic flow?

Should there be a sprinkling system?

What lighting will be needed?
