Sixty race fans were arrested at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during qualifications for the Indianapolis 500, including 25 during a fight in the grandstands, officials said.

Scott Minier, a spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, said no one was injured in the fight, which began near the fourth turn at about 4 p.m. Sunday. Two sheriff’s deputies who tried to quell the melee were attacked by the crowd. They were assisted by two deputies on horseback, who eventually broke up the disturbance, Minier said.

Twenty-six drivers qualified Sunday for the 73rd running of the race on May 28, leaving seven spots to fill in the final two days of time trials this weekend. (Story, Part III, Page 1.)
