Safeguard Health Enterprises Inc., an Anaheim-based provider of dental-care plans, reported net income of $848,000 for the first quarter of 1989, a 12% jump compared to $757,000 in the year-earlier period. Revenue for the quarter fell 7% to $15.6 million, from $16.8 million.
The company said the increased earnings are the result of reductions in health-care and administrative expenses. Safeguard had 831,000 enrollees in its dental plans on March 31, a decline of 93,000 members from a year earlier.
