Trial Opens for Man Accused in 4 Deaths

Defense and prosecution attorneys presented their opening arguments Monday in the trial of Harvey Rader, the one-time Reseda car dealer accused of murdering a Northridge family of four whose bodies have never been found.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Lonnie Aaron Felker said that Rader’s own contradictory statements as well as testimony from various witnesses will prove that Rader killed businessman Sol Salomon, his wife, Elaine, and their children, Mitchell, 9, and Michalle, 15, in October, 1982.
But Rader’s attorney, Deputy Public Defender Mark Lessem, said that there was not sufficient evidence to link his client to the crimes.
