Hearing to Be Held on Park Land-Swap Plan

A public meeting will be held Wednesday night in Woodland Hills to discuss the preparation of an environmental impact study on a proposed land swap between the National Park Service and Potomac Investment Associates in the Jordan Ranch area of Ventura County.

Potomac has proposed deeding to the Park Service 864.45 acres of its holdings in the China Flat area of Palo Comado Canyon in return for 59.43 acres of lower Cheeseboro Canyon that is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Potomac wants to use the land in building a road to the Jordan Ranch development, which would include more than 1,800 homes and a championship golf course.

The Park Service has approved the trade in principle, subject to an environmental impact review.

The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. at El Camino Real High School, 5440 Valley Circle Blvd.

Park Service officials said they will take comments at the meeting on issues that should be addressed in the environmental impact statement. They also said written comments can be sent by May 31 to Superintendent, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, 22900 Ventura Blvd., Suite 140, Woodland Hills, CA 91364.
