P.M. BRIEFING : MTV Plans All-Comedy Cable Net

NEW YORK —
MTV Networks, the cable television unit of Viacom Inc., said today that it will launch a 24-hour all-comedy cable network early next year.
The new service, to be known as HA TV Comedy Network, will be offered to subscribers as part of the basic cable package and will feature original comedy movies and situation comedies as well as existing movies and reruns of television shows.
MTV’s announcement comes two days after rival Home Box Office said it will launch a 24-hour comedy channel later this year.
