World : Oceans Rising Yearly, Study Shows

The water in the world’s oceans appears to be rising a tenth of an inch per year, a change that could indicate that the planet is indeed warming up, a pair of Canadian researchers reported today.

Scientists concerned about possible climate warming caused by the so-called “greenhouse effect” have said one likely result would be rising sea levels as the polar icecaps melt. But detailed evidence has been lacking, with sea levels apparently rising in some areas and falling in others.
