Chile arrested two leftist leaders and a Roman Catholic priest on orders of a military prosecutor, who charged them with insulting the armed forces. Police identified the three as Jose Sanfuentes, a leader of the outlawed Communist Party; Sandra Palestro, an official of the Socialist Party, and Father Rafael Maroto, who was suspended from church activities five years ago for involvement with a leftist group that advocates violent revolution. The charges arose from a letter they wrote in 1986, accusing an army leader of violating a law against making political speeches.
