Britain was buzzing today with reports that Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher uses an underwater electric shock treatment to look her dazzling best.

But the reports, based on an article in Vanity Fair magazine, failed to jolt any reaction from Thatcher’s office. “We’ve got no comment,” a 10 Downing Street spokesman said.

The Daily Express reported that it had found the London home of an Indian woman therapist behind “the amazing secret of Mrs. Thatcher’s eternal youth.”

It said Thatcher’s “body consultant,” identified only as Veronique, practices Ayurveda, an ancient Indian treatment of oils, muds, baths and electric charges to ensure that the Conservative leader known as “the Iron Lady” keeps in the pink.

The reports of Thatcher’s shock treatments sparked Conservative MP Geoffrey Dickens to remark: “If it is true that the prime minister does indulge in this, then it obviously works. She looks very good these days.”
