Gardening : Weekend Checklist for Dedicated Diggers and Planters

For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen:

Water tomatoes deeply, give them at least eight hours of sunlight a day and a balanced fertilizer.

Keep petunias and fuchsias pinched back for a compact plant and more blooms all summer.

Plant summer-flowering shrubs now: bush morning glory, abelia, lemon bottlebrush, lavender starflower or hibiscus.

Plant chrysanthemum cuttings this month for a fall crop of color.

Feed bedding plants regularly from now and throughout the summer to keep them at their peak.
