Britain’s ambassador made a televised appeal for the release of 75-year-old Briton Jack Mann, believed kidnaped in Muslim West Beirut 10 days ago. “There must be something wrong with the mentality of those who kidnap an old gentleman . . . to accomplish certain objectives,” Ambassador Allan Ramsay said, speaking in Arabic over the Christian-run Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. Mann disappeared May 13, and a group calling itself the Cells of Armed Struggle later claimed it had kidnaped an unidentified Briton. The group demanded release of unidentified prisoners it claims are held in Britain in connection with the 1987 slaying of a Palestinian in London, but Scotland Yard said no one was detained or charged in the case.
