Iran Rejected for U.N. Rights Panel

UNITED NATIONS —
Iran was rejected in its bid Tuesday to join the U.N. Commission on Human Rights after receiving only nine votes, while Iraq won entry by 28 votes.
Other commission members elected in a secret ballot conducted by the U.N.’s Economic and Social Council were Ghana, Senegal, Madagascar, Pakistan, the Philippines, France, Italy and the United States.
