P.M. BRIEFING : Dixie Brewing Files Bankruptcy

NEW ORLEANS —
The Dixie Brewing Co., the Deep South’s last major independent beer maker, has filed for bankruptcy protection to keep city tax officials from closing the 82-year-old brewery.
The Chapter 11 petition filed late Wednesday will apparently allow the company to continue operating while it reorganizes its finances. Workers were seen entering the brewery this morning.
Dixie received a letter Tuesday from the city giving it 24 hours to come up with $375,000 in overdue sales and property taxes or shut down.
