Compton : Moore Appointed to Succeed James on Council
The Compton City Council has unanimously voted to appoint Patricia Moore to fill the vacancy created last week when Floyd James resigned his District 2 seat to wage a write-in campaign against Councilman Robert L. Adams in the 3rd District.
Moore, 40, defeated James in the April primary and was expected to join the council July 1. In the wake of James’ resignation, however, Adams and Councilman Maxcy Filer proposed that Moore be appointed to serve the remainder of James’ four-year term.
For the past week, Moore has been attending work sessions during which the council has been reviewing 1989-90 budget proposals.
An outreach worker for the U.S. Census Bureau, Moore is also a student at Cal State Dominguez Hills. She is a former aide to U.S. Rep. Mervyn Dymally (D-Compton).
Moore’s appointment to the council comes after two other unsuccessful election bids, the first in 1983 against Councilwoman Jane Robbins, and the second four years ago when James defeated Moore in a runoff election.
