Israeli soldiers said they were fired on in Bethlehem. It was the second such attack reported against Israeli security forces in the city in two days. No one was hurt. The incidents have fueled concern over Palestinian threats to start shooting in the anti-Israeli uprising. Meanwhile, five Palestinians were sentenced to terms ranging from 18 months to four years for a riot in which a Jewish guard accidentally killed 15-year-old Tirza Porat. Jewish settlers initially claimed that the young Israeli was stoned to death by Palestinians who had attacked hikers. But the army later said the death was accidental.
