A 2 1/2-year-old El Cajon girl was in critical condition late Wednesday with head injuries allegedly inflicted by her mother’s boyfriend.
Gary Stephen Griffith, 34, was arrested Thursday by El Cajon police on suspicion of felony child endangerment. Police gave no details about the cause of the child’s injuries or the extent of Griffith’s involvement.
The victim’s mother, Debbie Mahan, was in bed with the flu at their home in the 1100 block of Cloverleaf Drive at the time the girl was injured Wednesday night and was unaware of her daughter’s condition until about four hours later, a police spokesman said.
The girl was admitted to Children’s Hospital with a traumatic head injury, cerebral swelling and blood clotting on the brain, police said. No further information on her condition was available Thursday night.
