‘Agenda for the Next Generation’

Regarding your editorial and its comments on teen-age pregnancy, advocating delaying pregnancy through access to family planning services, made me ponder. As a teen-ager in the early 1960s, I remember well being taught in the classroom that if we did wrong, we must be willing to accept the consequences. For the vast majority of us, this bit of wisdom worked extremely well as an advocate for delaying teen-age pregnancies.

Today we seem to be teaching our teens: “Do wrong and we’ll assist you so you don’t have to accept any consequences.” Hmmm! Looking back, I’m rather glad I was a teen when I was!
