From Times wire services

Leaders of the Jewish settlement of Ariel, founded in the occupied West Bank in 1977, announced today that Palestinians who work there will have to wear tags identifying them as “foreign workers.”

Ariel Mayor Ron Nachmann said the Palestinians will undergo a daily security check before being issued the tags. “We want to be sure that no terrorists enter Ariel. The security officer has a list of names and checks if they are innocent,” Nachmann said.

About 400 Palestinians work in Ariel, a settlement of more than 8,000 Israelis. The Palestinians are mainly residents of other villages in the West Bank.
