NEW YORK — Former Miss America Bess Myerson’s boyfriend has left the Allenwood federal prison in Pennsylvania for a halfway house in New York City to finish serving his sentence for tax evasion.
Carl (Andy) Capasso, 47, owner of a sewer construction company, is due for release June 26 after completing two years of a three-year sentence.
Capasso was jailed in 1987 after pleading guilty to evading nearly $1.5 million in taxes. Myerson was later forced to leave her post as the city’s cultural affairs commissioner after taking the Fifth Amendment before the grand jury that investigated Capasso.
Later, she was accused of having used her city job to try to influence a judge handling Capasso’s divorce case. She was acquitted of charges that she gave the judge’s daughter a job in return for rulings that reduced Capasso’s support and child-care payments.
