The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which last June called for $300,000 in fines against the Casmalia Resources toxic waste landfill near Santa Maria, has settled for a $2,000 fine. The EPA said Casmalia offered evidence proving that two of six counts brought against the facility were unwarranted. All six counts involved record keeping and financial responsibility requirements. The $2,000 fine covered the four remaining counts.
