Jewish seminary students were among 30 Israelis arrested in the occupied West Bank in a hunt for settlers who rampaged through an Arab village, fatally shooting a 16-year-old girl, security sources said. The arrests reportedly took place in Elon Moreh and Yizhar near Nablus, the sources said; the incident occurred in nearby Kifl Harith. Israel Radio had reported that the settlers opened fire when attacked by stone throwers. However, Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin denounced the shootings as “indiscriminate, punitive actions.” Meanwhile, in Israel’s security zone in southern Lebanon, troops shot to death a suspected Palestinian guerrilla who was apparently trying to sneak into Israel, the army reported.
