The Huntington Beach Council on Monday will consider conceptual approval of the Bolsa Chica Planning Coalition’s plan to develop an environmentally sensitive coastal area while restoring a significant portion of the Bolsa Chica wetlands. On May 22, the coalition of preservationists, developers and local officials adopted a plan that will restore at least 1,000 acres of wetlands and significantly limit development on the scenic coastal strip near Huntington Beach.
Seen as a victory for environmentalists, the agreement will eventually provide Orange County with one of the largest restored wetlands preserves in the state. Members of the coalition said they do not foresee any problems in the plan’s passage through federal, state and local agencies for final approval.
