NATION : Marcos Given Emergency Surgery
Ousted Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos, already listed in very critical condition with heart, lung and kidney failure, underwent a three-hour operation Tuesday to drain an abscess on his pancreas, a hospital spokeswoman said today.
The emergency operation was carried out on the 71-year-old Marcos partly to try to reduce a high fever, the spokeswoman, Norma Kop, said.
Marcos had a relapse on May 19 at the St. Francis Medical Center and was said by hospital spokesman Eugene Tiwanak to be likely to die at any time.
