American’s Expansion Plans: As part of its continued expansion, American Airlines says it will spend up to $550 million to build one maintenance facility and expand another to service its growing fleet. The carrier will build a $400-million maintenance and service facility at Ft. Worth Alliance Airport and undertake a $150-million expansion of the airline’s current maintenance facility in Tulsa, Okla. The Alliance facility will be built on 207 acres and include a series of hangars, shops and support buildings. Completion of the first phase is expected by the end of 1991. Initial employment will be about 2,500 people, but could exceed 4,500 by completion. The Tulsa hangar will increase employment there to 7,700 from the current 6,100.
