Bicycle Safety

As an avid bicycle rider, I enjoyed your recent articles on the Santa Ana river bike path and bicycling in general, but bicycle safety was not stressed as much as it could have been.

The gentleman in the picture claims to own two helmets, yet was not wearing one in the picture. The article about the bike path referred to a rider carrying extra batteries for his radio and also to riders who used two-way radio headphones to more easily converse. Riding a bicycle while wearing earphones is unsafe, since you cannot hear the approach of cars, riders or other potential hazards. It is also against the law.

Keep your helmet on, your earphones off and ride safely.
