Uranium Plant Planned in Louisiana: A consortium of utilities, an industrial contractor and a European group plan to build a uranium enrichment plant in Louisiana at a cost of $750 million. Enriched uranium is used in nuclear power plants. Members of the consortium include Fluor Corp.’s Fluor-Daniel Inc. of Irvine; Entergy Corp.’s Louisiana Power & Light of New Orleans; Northern States Power Co.’s Graystone Corp. of Minneapolis; Duke Power Co. of Charlotte, N.C., and Urenco, a European enrichment group. When the plant is operational in 1996, it is expected to meet the needs of up to 15% of the nation’s 110 nuclear power plants.
