Applied Power to Buy Barry Wright: Barry Wright Corp. said it has agreed to be acquired by Applied Power Inc. for $12.40 a share, ending a hostile takeover battle in a deal valuing the company at $145 million. Applied Power, an electric products company based in Butler, Wis., previously had offered $10 a share for Barry Wright, which makes office filing systems and vibration control devices for heavy machinery. As recently as last week, Barry Wright Chairman Ralph Z. Sorenson said the company was not for sale, and Gov. Michael S. Dukakis had offered to help.
