An Israeli court sentenced a 71-year-old Holocaust survivor to three years in prison for hurling acid in the face of an Israeli lawyer who represents convicted Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk. Yisrael Yehezkieli also was sentenced to two years’ probation and ordered to pay $11,000 in compensation to attorney Yoram Sheftel, who suffered eye damage. Israel Radio quoted Yehezkieli as saying afterward that he did not regret the attack. Demjanjuk was sentenced to death in April, 1988, for crimes against humanity after it was established that he was “Ivan the Terrible,” the notorious Nazi guard at the Treblinka death camp in Poland during World War II. Demjanjuk’s case is on appeal.
