Chile’s Pinochet Slates July 30 Vote on Reforms

SANTIAGO, Chile —
President Augusto Pinochet on Thursday scheduled a referendum for July 30 to approve constitutional reforms negotiated with his opponents to ease Chile’s transfer to civilian rule next March.
The package of 54 amendments includes the shortening of the next presidential term from eight to four years and the lifting of a ban on Marxist parties.
