Soviet ballerina Galina Stepanenko won a gold medal Thursday when she danced with Michael Shannon of Los Angeles in the International Ballet Competition held in Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater. Contestants were judged individually, and only Stepanenko won a medal. The two-week contest is similar to the Olympics, with dancers competing for gold, silver and bronze medals. No Americans won medals. Stepanenko and Shannon danced the pas de deux from “Don Quixote” in the final round.
