On June 11, The Times reported that in Los Angeles each of a group of protesters refusing to comply with police orders to walk to a Los Angeles Police Department bus was approached by two officers who applied to that person’s arms “a martial arts device composed of two pieces of wood connected with a chain or rope.” As reported, torque applied to the device “often caused pain to show on the face of the person being arrested and sometimes a cry or a loud sob” (was heard).

Aren’t we in danger of being accused of living in a glass house when we criticize other countries for some of their behavior?
