From Times wire services

A young nurse who tried to take the pulse of dying Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme moments after he was shot said in court today that Palme’s wife, Lisbet, had been hysterical.

“When I leaned over Palme to take his pulse she tried to push me aside and told me to leave him alone because he had to go to hospital. Then she pushed me again,” Anna Hage, 21, testified.

“Did Lisbet Palme have a fit of hysterics?” asked lawyer Arne Liljeros, who is defending the man accused of Palme’s murder, Christer Pettersson.

“Yes, that is the correct description,” Hage replied. “Lisbet Palme kept talking and running around, backward and forward. My friend tried to calm her,” she said.

Liljeros was calling his first witnesses in a strategy aimed at casting doubt on the reliability of earlier testimony from Lisbet Palme, seen as a key witness in the case against Pettersson, 42.
