Frank Trapani; Veteran Jazz Trumpeter

Frank Trapani, 52, a longtime jazz trumpeter with the Dukes of Dixieland. Trapani played with the orchestras of Charlie Barnett, Les Elgard and Billy May, as well as with such artists as Pearl Bailey, Tony Bennett, Lou Rawls and Quincy Jones. He was lead trumpeter with the Dick Stabile Orchestra in New Orleans for 12 years until 1974, when he joined the Dukes of Dixieland. For the last several years he was the Dukes’ front man. In New Orleans on Monday of a blood clot in his lungs.
