IRS Horror Story

In response to “Woman’s Patience Is Taxed to the Limit in IRS Horror Story,” Metro, June 24:

The harsh tactics, including threats and intimidation, should be well known to anyone who has dealt with the IRS. I empathize with Saundra Williams’ plight for having her whole life turned upside down by this untethered Big Brother.

Several years ago, I was involved in a tax dispute with the IRS. While the case was being appealed, I received a frantic phone call from my bank that my accounts were frozen by the IRS. After telling the IRS agent involved that this was unwarranted, I was simply told that “Yes, we can freeze your assets as long as we think you owe us money.” My accounts were unfrozen the same day after both the attorney representing my tax appeal and my accountant contacted the IRS.

Its handling of both Williams’ and my cases bares its fang of vicious incompetence. Even now, I am still steamed by its arrogance and insensitivity.
