An Iranian newspaper suggested Tuesday that Iran should build an “American terrorism hall” in memory of the 290 people killed a year ago when a U.S. cruiser Vincennes shot down an Iran Air Airbus over the Persian Gulf.

Iran’s news agency IRNA quoted Kayhan International as saying that a memorial hall is needed to keep alive the memory of the Airbus victims.

“Future generations should know why their ancestors throughout their life shouted ‘Death to the U.S.’ ” it added.

The English-language daily said wreckage of the Iranian Airbus and photographs of the dead would serve as a monument to those killed by “American missiles fired by the Americans.”

The Pentagon said that the crew of the Vincennes mistook the airliner, which was on a flight from the southern Iranian town of Bandar Abbas to Dubai, for a hostile Iranian F-14 fighter.
